About the Role

Our public sector client is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst, for a 3.5 month, full time contract, with the possibility of up to a 12-month extension. The Financial Analyst will be required on a full-time basis (7.25 hour work day, 36.25 hours/week), and will apply their accounting skills to full cycle accounting and financial reporting, including developing and executing month end processes, financial analysis, dashboards and external/internal reporting.



Duties will include but not limited to:



• Perform month end close procedures and prepare month end reconciliations.
• Assist with quarterly and annual audit processes as needed.
• Assist and provide direction to others within the accounting department and advise direct report of potential areas for improvement.
• Ensure accounting task completion in accordance with policies, procedures, and business strategies.
• Create all financial reports in accordance with appropriate accounting framework.
• Review monthly reconciliation of Bank Accounts.
• Prepare any internal review documents.
• Reconcile GL Balance Sheet accounts.
• Prepare timely and accurate management reports as required.
• Assist senior management with special projects as required.



Working Hours


Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday excluding holidays observed by the client.


Work must be done from within Canada, due to network and data security issues.


This is a Hybrid role - three days per week in the Edmonton downtown office and two days remote. The hybrid model will be available after initial onboarding and training period which is expected to take place in the office.


Equipment requirements:
• The Contingent Resource will be provided with client owned equipment (laptop, 2 monitors, keyboard, mouse) for the duration of the contract.



Requirements

Education


  • CPA designation

  • 5 years experience using accounting principles and Canadian public sector accounting standards or equivalent



Soft Skills


  • 5 years- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact and collaborate professionally with a diverse group

  • 5 years- Experience developing and maintaining positive relationships across the organization, including executive level

  • 5 years- Experience with research, analysis and problem solving

  • High customer service skills and ethics



Work Experience


  • 5 years- Experience with and knowledge of financial reporting ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial statements, and using Microsoft Excel

  • 5 years- Relevant work experience and experience with Microsoft Office

  • 5 years- The ability to accurately calculate, post, correct, and manage accounting figures and financial records

  • 5 years- Experience with public sector accounting

Standard Background check required.


• The Supplier shall, prior to commencement of the Services, provide the client, on its request and at no cost to the client, with criminal record checks for the Contingent Resource.

Three references, for whom similar work has been performed, must be provided. The most recent reference should be listed first. Reference checks may or may not be completed to assist with scoring of the proposed resource by the client.
